Coverville 61: Guster, Filter, Cowboy Junkies...because YOU requested it!

Coverville is sponsored by iPodderX. Feed your iPod by getting your copy of the #1 podcasting Macintosh client today at iPodderX.com!

On Friday, I spoke to Julie at ASCAP, who is lifting the restriction on putting song lists in my show notes! So from now on, you'll find the song lists on the Coverville site. Thanks Julie!

Tonight we have a special guest in the studio: Dave from the Colorado Springs Gazette! Dave is listening in on the show to see how it's all put together. And here's what I put together for the show:

"(Open Up Your) Filthy Heart (To Me)" - Shriekback (the Uncovered Gem of the week)
"One" - Filter (originally Three Dog Night)
"Midnight Cowboy" - Faith No More (originally John Barry and his Orchestra)
"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" - Cowboy Junkies (originally Hank Williams)
"Wild Horses" - Gov't Mule (originally The Rolling Stones)
"(Nothing But) Flowers" - Guster (originally The Talking Heads)

I'm trying to figure out a clean way to give you all faster downloads in the first few hours that the show is available. Until I do, though, I thank you for your patience and hope each show is worth the wait!

Thanks again for all your votes at Podcast Alley! Your support is what makes this show possible. If you'd like to cast a vote for me, you can use the link in the top right corner of this page.

Coffee Anyone?

By Linda Bramble

The world can be divided into two groups of coffee lovers. Those lucky enough not to be affected at all by the unsettling effects of caffeine and those who are. Two decades ago there was little on the market to appease those of us who could not tolerate the jitters but that didn’t mean we didn’t yearn for the heady roasted flavours of a full-bodied Columbian. We were left with little packets of powder that tasted more like cornstarch blended with dehydrated mold and glue, still common in Europe. Then the processing plants devised better methods of decaffeination. The coffee tastes better, but still not as rich as regular coffee. But take heart. Here is a way to reduce your caffeine intake without sacrificing flavour. Try blending regular decaffeinated coffee with coffee made from beans naturally low in caffeine such as Arabica. Less caffeine and more flavour.

It's commentary without compromise on the PCR...as usual. Martha's back and she needs to lay low, or else. The sequel to Get Shorty is out. It seems to me that most sequels either aren't a good idea or are missing a key element, known as STORY. The music industry is a mess and something needs to be done. And much more...

Artist: SpiralingTitle: (Get Your Own) Holy GrailAlbum: Transmitter
I've had this song in my head all weekend so I just had to get it out on the Podsafe Music page. Featured on the inaugural version of Alley Cuts, this New Jersey based progressive rock act does it again with a dynamic sound that rocks in a very original way. Check out the band on the web at http://www.spiraling.net.

Two weeks ago I did an interview for Manhattan public access television with Harold Channer. The main subject was, of course, podcasting. We also spoke about general technology, creating digital audio on the PC and satellite radio. Mr. Channer was a very nice guy and he was as eager to learn about podcasting as I was to talk about it. You can find out more about Harold Channer by visiting his website at http://www.channer.tv.

Forward-thinking Terry Heaton is trying to get local media companies to understand the power of technology and the Internet. Instead of shunning it, they should be embracing it. Terrys one guy who really understands where its all headed. In recent posts, you might see him quoting another thought leader, Jeff Jarvis. I cant wait to ask Terry what he thinks about BitTorrent enabling people to see the shows their television or PVR may have missed. Then, I cant wait to hear what hes been telling media networks the world over.Listen to Terry Heaton in WMA
